Eosinophils
An important indicator of our health:
Eosinophils are a type of white blood cell involved in the defence against parasites and allergic reactions. The biomarker eosinophils indicates the proportion of eosinophils in the blood. A normal value is between 1 and 6 percent.
An elevated level of eosinophils can indicate an allergic disease such as asthma, hay fever or eczema. It can also indicate a parasitic infection or an autoimmune disease such as Crohn's disease or lupus erythematosus.
A decreased level of eosinophils may indicate an acute infection or inflammation. It may also be due to a stress reaction or treatment with corticosteroids.
The eosinophil biomarker is an important indicator of immune health and should be checked regularly. It can help to find the cause of symptoms such as cough, shortness of breath, skin rash or diarrhoea and to choose the appropriate therapy.
