Lowering access barriers to colorectal cancer screening with home tests

Düsseldorf / Berlin, 27 June 2024 - GWQ ServicePlus AG (GWQ), one of the leading service providers for 75 statutory health insurance companies with over 24 million policyholders, and DoctorBox, one of the largest independent healthcare marketplaces in Europe, are launching a cooperation to improve colorectal cancer screening.

The co-operation aims to improve preventive healthcare and detect diseases at an early stage. The home tests are free of charge for those insured by the participating health insurance companies, and the application is simple: insured persons receive a redemption code from their health insurance company, which they can use to order a home test on the DoctorBox website. The home test is delivered to their home and the samples are sent to an accredited laboratory in a pre-paid envelope. The insured person receives the results digitally, and digital follow-up care can be offered if required.

Colorectal cancer screening as a model for the future

In Germany, screening rates are low despite the availability of tests. The introduction of home testing aims to increase this rate and lower barriers to access by allowing tests to be carried out in the comfort of the home.

Julian Maar, COO of DoctorBox, on the future of screening:

"The pandemic has raised awareness of the possibilities of at-home diagnostics. With our home screening test, excuses such as 'no time' no longer apply."

Oliver Harks, Deputy CEO of GWQ, adds:

"Our co-operation with DoctorBox is setting new standards in preventative medicine by bringing high-quality self-testing directly into the living rooms of policyholders and making preventative healthcare more accessible in the process."
